Yesterday, Kira and I had some time to kill between piano lessons and the farm pick-up, so we stopped by a smallish thriftstore on the way. This particular thriftstore is manned by little old ladies who volunteer their time.
We walked around, looking over racks, and in the children's section found something neat: a Harry Potter denim jacket, in great shape, complete with embroidered Hogwarts crest and motto ("Never tickle a sleeping dragon" - in Latin, of course), $4. Cool. Kira was quite pleased, and we walked up to the cash register to pay.
What happened next positively made Kira's day.
The lady at the cash register broke out into a huge smile. "Wow! What a find! That is wonderful!" Then she turned around to the lady working behind her. "Did you see what this young lady found?"
"No - oh, look at that! That must be the find of the day!" Within seconds we had three of the ladies gathered around, all oohing and aahing over Kira's jacket, while Kira's smile grew progressively wider.
By the time we left, she was glowing. The jacket hadn't changed - but her perception of it had. I think she'll remember their words and faces whenever she puts on the jacket. It was a nice find, but the ladies made it a treasure.
