Is it really that difficult for people to distinguish between a war and the people fighting in the war?
I am on an e-mail list that has a fair amount of Mennonites on it. One of those moms has a daughter who does not subscribe to the pacifist family views, joined the military, and got deployed to Iraq.
Now the family is being given grief over sending care packages to their daughter, and asking for prayer.
Now it is no great secret that I am not anywhere near convinced that the war on Iraq was necessary. But why does dislike for the war have to translate into dislike for the men and women fighting in it? Why can't a mom hate the war, and love her daughter? Supporting a soldier is not the same thing as supporting the war, is it?
