So we spent the last week in Las Vegas, visiting my mother-in-law.
Las Vegas is a weird place. There is beauty and ugliness so close together that it can be positively disconcerting. The Bellagio dancing waters are breath-taking (never thought I would say that about dancing waters.) So are the three-foot-diameter Murano glass flowers that cover the ceiling of the hotel lobby. A few yards away is a guy advertising "Girls to your room" on his t-shirt, handing out flyers with pictures of topless chicks. The sordid and the spectacular, side by side.

For our celebrity sighting, we ran into Penn of Penn and Teller, twice. For all you Babylon 5 fans out there - "Zooty Zoot Zoot"! ;-)

Stopped by Temple Square in Salt Lake City on the way back. I have been in a Moslem mosque and a Buddhist temple, and had no problem and actually enjoyed the experience. Somehow, that place gave me the heebie-jeebies. Maybe because so much of it looks right, except that it is all slighty off. Reminds me of that scene in "That Hideous Strength".

I did like the totally enjoyable Irish guy who gave us a tour of the LDS convention center roof and brothered and sistered us half to death in a quite funny and charming way. Cheers to you, Brother Smith.
